Spring 2010 preview: pattern play
This season the more patterns the better! Mix it and match it from head to toe!
If you’re like me and tend to play on the safer side of the runway inspiration, it is always a good idea to start with something simple. Why not try a delicate piece with a bolder color that is not too overwhelming but has enough of the “wow” factor?! Such as this Nümph Dress in lewis peach (available at Liv by Au Lit, $100). Very feminine but with an edge!
As seen on Spring 2010 runways:
Versace; Alexander McQueen; Etro
When it comes to prints, more is definitely more this season. If designers like Dries Van Noten and Donatella Versace have their way, you’ll be mixing and matching from head to toe. And we’re not just talking about traditional flowers, though there were plenty of pretty ones at Etro, Anna Sui, and Tory Burch. Duro Olowu’s tribal motifs ad Givenchy’s digital designs were engineered for maximum impact.”

I love the blog… but the runway photos are horrifying! The models are so scary thin it is alarming. Is this what the fashion world has come to? I haven’t kept up on it since having 2 kids and I love your store but wow, the runway models really give me the willies. I cannot believe that this is what is now considered a beautiful woman’s body. Makes me sad.

Hi Deirdre,
The realities of the fashion world are quite sad, the girls keep getting thinner and it does not appear that the change is going to take place anytime soon. I believe in celebrating the beauty of a woman’s body, but that often times does not seem to be the case with the fashion family.

Well Marta I guess our best defense as women is to just feel good about ourselves and celebrate our differences. The fashion industry seems to favor only one body type but I believe a woman of any height or dress size can look fabulous and feel good about herself. Confidence sells the look and I do absolutely love the clothing at Liv. Keep up the great work… and your positive attitude! xo

Hi Deirdre,
Thank you for the lovely words
I absolute agree, fashion industry does portray only one kind of an image, which I think is a great disadvantage and complete failure on their part. Women come in all shapes and sizes and that is beautiful!
