Rustic Bedroom Retreats – Minimalist Cottage Style

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

A cottage bedroom is no longer just another room to fill with shabby chic bedding and furniture. There is a growing trend towards minimalism in cottage design, where natural building materials and external views take centre stage. Bedding is always clean and crisp, sometimes with pops of colour or texture for fun. Here are some gorgeous examples of cottage bedrooms that demonstrate how a minimal room can be a beautiful retreat at the cottage as well as in the city.

Re-thinking your art

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

It is common for people to think that frames on a wall together need to be the same style and colour, but that isn’t always the case. One of my favourite looks is a variety of different sized frames and styles mixed with interesting art. It adds great visual interest, and makes the images in the frames seem more special and unique. It’s also a great way to re-use frames you already have. These are some great examples:

That’s not to say that groupings of the same style dont look great as well…

Less is more

I adore the minimalism of this room. It’s so relaxing, I want to crawl into the bed and spend an afternoon reading in it.

Our Oscar “Best-dressed” Picks!

Monday, February 28th, 2011

There were a lot of beautifully dressed people last night, but here’s who we thought looked the most ravishing at the Academy Awards.

From Left to Right, Top to Bottom: Halle Berry in a nude, crystal-encrusted Marchesa gown. Michelle Williams in a white beaded Chanel Haute Couture dress. Mila Kunis in a lace Elie Saab Haute Couture dress and Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang.

It’s a beautiful day!

Friday, February 18th, 2011

The beautiful sun and spring weather has inspired us to do a little bit of spring tidying and sprucing around the store today. Things are looking good, inside and out!

This new Factory dress is set off perfectly by this table of accessories, especially the Edmoure Ralph Monthly Charm Necklaces and the 442 McAdam bags. It all looks so elegant!

We love the beautiful light linens and cottons in the new pieces Fine Collection, and the colours are as soft as the fabrics!

Hope you enjoy the beautiful day and maybe get inspired too!

CHALLENGE: Six items or less in 30 days!

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

You may have heard about http://sixitemsorless.com/
It challenges people to wear only six items or less for 30 days and blog about their experiences while doing it. (the six items do not include shoes, accessories, undergarments or outerwear) This inspired us to come up with some tips on how to do this at LIV.

For our six items we chose a pair of black leggings, dark wash skinny jeans, a black blazer, a long sweater, a dress and a long sleeve top to mix and match for the 30 days. We were able to come up with 10 different outfits using these pieces. It was important to choose items which were solids and didn’t have much pattern, so they would be less memorable when worn over again. We also tried to pick pieces that could be layered so that we weren’t just matching 3 tops to 3 bottoms. Of course, we used different accessories to create visual interest and diversity for day to day wear (which is allowed) and shoes would help achieve this as well.

Here’s what we came up with:

Overall, it’s a great little experiment to try out in your own closet. It forces you to get creative with what you have and helps to determine what you might need to complete some awesome new looks. With our sale still going on, the total cost of the six items selected for our experiment was $552! For 10 new outfits thats a great deal! Who’s up for the challenge?
